UC Santa Cruz Women's Basketball Falls to Cal Lutheran University Women's Basketball in Thanksgiving Classic F

Both UC Santa Cruz basketball teams lost a game over the weekend. In the finals of the UC Santa Cruz Thanksgiving Classic, the women's team lost to Cal Lutheran 59-45.

The UC Santa Cruz women's basketball team fell to Cal Lutheran University, 59-45, in the final of the UC Santa Cruz Thanksgiving Day Regular Season Tournament on Sunday at Kaiser Permanente Arena.

The Banana Slugs were outscored 38-19 in the second half and committed 21 turnovers. They hit just one of their 10 three-point attempts, while Cal Lutheran hit nine from beyond the arc and won the rebounding battle 36-32.

Celine Castaneda led UCLA with eight points and four rebounds, while Alexa Litchev had seven points and seven assists. alyssa Jackson and Lilli Hammons each scored seven points, and Talysha Wilkerson also Scoring.

Sara Mills was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player as she contributed 21 points and five rebounds for the Royals (2-for-3).

UCLA (4 wins, 2 losses) will face NCAA Division I UC Santa Barbara (3 wins, 2 losses) at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Men's Basketball.

Cabrillo Seahawks defeat Cuesta, 102-85

Jalen Cunningham drained six three-pointers and scored 22 points to lead the Cabrillo Seahawks to a 102-85 non-conference win over Cuesta on Saturday.

It was the third time this season that Cabrillo's offense has scored more than 100 points. Taray Winfrey and Darius Best each had 16 points and five rebounds for the Seahawks. Solomon Tucker had 15 points and five rebounds and reserve Cullen Cleaves had 11 points and five rebounds.

Cabrillo (7-0) will host Alameda (1-6) this Friday at 5 p.m. in the Saltwater Classic.

UCLA Banana Slugs fall to Pacific Lutheran 91-90

Zino Okah scored a game-high 25 points as the UCSC Banana Slugs fell to Pacific Lutheran 91-90 on Sunday in Portland, Ore.

Tyler Kessinger contributed 12 points and five rebounds for UCLA, while Ian McCloskey, Joseph Espy and Nelson Etuk each scored 11 points.

Sam Noland hit two free throws with 13 seconds left in the game to give the Lutes (4-0) a 91-87 lead, and Etuk hit a 3-pointer at the final whistle to make it 91-87.

UCLA (4-for-4) will travel to Claremont to face Pomona-Pitzer (5-for-0) at 2 p.m. Sunday.

UCSC Banana Slugs Defeat Lewis & Clark Pioneers, 81-72

Treyson Keating and Zino Oka both recorded double-doubles as the UCLA Banana Slugs defeated the Lewis & Clark Pioneers 81-72 on Saturday in Portland, Ore.

Keating had 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Okah had 12 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Other UCLA players scoring in double figures included Tyler Kessinger with 11 points and Ian McCloskey and reserve Wilson with 10 points each.

UCLA hit 21 of 30 free throws and won the rebounding battle 50-35.
